Crazy Eights and Game Picker Improvements

Cardiac King 1.5 has been released. Here’s what’s new.

Crazy Eights

Crazy Eights has been added as a new game. It’s a shedding card game where players match suits and ranks in trying to discard their hand. The game is the predecessor to the Uno card game and can be played with the standard 52-card deck.

Game Picker Improvements

Significant improvements have been made to the game picker tool.

Filters have been added to the random game picker. For example, if you only have a standard 52-card deck, Hanafuda games are of no use to you. Furthermore, you may just be interested in poker games and don’t want Crazy Eights, High Card, or Egyptian Ratscrew in the mix.

For Five-Card Draw and Seven-Card Stud, a random wild card will be added as well. For example, if the picker chooses Five-Card Draw, a secondary roll will be made for the wild cards, including the possibility of no wild card. The random wild card will also appear on the game’s detail view for easy reference. This behavior can be disabled in the filters menu as well by disabling “Randomize Wild Cards.”

Filters are long overdue, as they massively help with debugging the animations. The random game animations have been refined and it’s now impossible to roll the same game twice in a row. There have also been some under-the-hood improvements to how these games are represented.
